Poor installation of bearings is equivalent to wasting money!

Don't underestimate the installation step - industry data shows that about 16% of bearings fail prematurely in the early stages of use, and the main culprit is the incorrect installation method. Even if you choose top brand bearings, if they are not assembled properly, their performance will be greatly reduced, and even instantly "scrapped".

1、 Preparation before installation: clean and precise, indispensable

The preparation work before installation is often overlooked, but it is the key to success or failure.

Thoroughly clean: The bearing, journal, and bearing seat cavities must be free of dust, oil stains, and metal debris. Once tiny particles are pressed into the raceway, they will directly cause permanent indentation (refer to typical pollution damage legend). Dimensional verification: Use precision measuring tools to check the fit tolerance, roundness, coaxiality, and other form and position errors of the shaft diameter and aperture to ensure compliance with design requirements. Excessive interference or clearance can lay hidden dangers.

2、 Apply force wisely: Don't use a hammer to 'hard smash' anymore!

Many on-site personnel are accustomed to using hammers to directly strike bearings, which is the most typical erroneous operation.

Prohibited behavior: Directly hammering the ring (especially the outer ring); Allow the impact force to be transmitted through the rolling elements (which can easily cause indentation of the raceway or deformation of the cage).

Correct method: Mechanical press fit: Use a dedicated installation sleeve or press to evenly apply force to the end face of the ring that needs to be pressed in (such as pressing the inner ring when it is in interference), to avoid eccentric load. Hot fitting method: For bearings with large interference fit, it is recommended to use induction heaters or clean oil baths for heating. The temperature should be strictly controlled within 120 ℃, and uniform heating should be ensured to prevent local annealing or deformation.

Don't rush to turn on the device after installation! Three step verification ensures security

After installation, it is necessary to perform the following checks: manual turning: it should rotate flexibly, without jamming or abnormal noise; Clearance/pre tightening retest: Use a feeler gauge or specialized instrument to confirm if it is within the allowable range; Trial operation monitoring: closely observe the temperature rise curve and noise level during the first start-up, and stop the machine for troubleshooting if there are any abnormalities.

Conclusion: Attached is the "Bearing Installation Self Inspection Checklist"

✅  Is the cleaning in place?

✅  Is the size qualified?

✅  Is the direction of force application correct?

✅  Not hammering the rolling element?

✅  Heating temperature ≤ 120 ℃?

✅  Has the clearance/preload been adjusted?

✅  What are the guidelines for using dismantling tools?

✅  Has the operational status been verified after installation?

Stick this list on the workshop wall and check each item before each operation - details determine success or failure, and good bearings deserve to be treated gently.
